Appalachian State Advances to the WBI Championship

Appalachian State beats Campbell to Advance to the WBI Championship

With a 70-57 win over Campbell (23-13) in the second semifinal game of the Women's Basketball Invitational, Appalachian State (21-14) secured a spot in the championship round.

The Mountaineers earned an early lead, surging ahead by as much as nine points before the Camels retaliated. App State went into the second quarter with a 19-15 lead. Led by sophomore guard Pre Stanley and sophomore forward Lainey Gosnell, the Mountaineers held on to their slim advantage in the second quarter, only outscoring Campbell 19-18 and going into the half with a 38-33 lead.

The teams scored 14 points each in the third period, but App State took over in the fourth quarter. Senior guard Madi Story put up 14 of her 19 points for the Mountaineers in the second half.

With a dominant performance on the boards and a great effort in the paint, App State pulled off the victory outrebounding Campbell 49-35. Junior forward/center Bayley Plummer pulled down 20 of those rebounds. In addition, the Mountaineers scored 44 points in the paint compared to 36 points by the Camels

North Texas travels to App State for a title game showdown on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
