With the start of the college basketball season just around the corner, fan excitement and anticipation about postseason will begin to grow and swell as weeks go by.
Before you know it, March will be here, and the teams selected for the Women’s Basketball Invitational will vie for the 2020 tournament title. The 11th annual event features 16 teams and begins March 18, two days after the NCAA Tournament Selection Show.
The WBI field will be announced Monday, March 16, the same day the NCAA selects its field of 64 teams.

Appalachian State won the 2019 WBI Championship in front of a record crowd, icing on the cake for the Mountaineers who finished their 2018-19 campaign with a 22-14 record, a 14-win improvement over the previous season. Just four days after winning the title, App State head coach Angel Elderkin signed a four-year contract extension through 2023.
The WBI provides a competitive postseason play for exceptional programs that do not qualify for the NCAA tournament. In the team-focused event, all games are played at campus sites. Home teams keep all revenue and travel teams get paid each trip.
