The first day of the Women’s Basketball Invitational quarterfinals saw three teams advance to the semifinals which begin this coming weekend. Appalachian State, Campbell and North Alabama are set for the next round.
Appalachian State 83, Marshall 71
Appalachian State (20-14) held off Marshall 83-71 Monday night to advance to the semifinals of the WBI. The win did not come easy as Marshall (17-15) mounted a late-game rally to get within three points with just three minutes left in the game. However, App State responded to finish out the game with a12-point lead. Both teams had impressive balanced efforts with five players on each squad scoring in double digits.

With a 70-62 win over Tennessee Tech (22-11) to move into the WBI semifinals, Campbell (23-12) matched the program single-season school record for wins at 23. Led by a season-high outing from junior guard Hayley Barber, Campbell outpaced TTU down the stretch. The Camels took over after the teams were tied at 57 all with 5:47 to go in the fourth quarter. Campbell will meet App State Saturday, March 30 for a chance to advance to the WBI championship game.

North Alabama 69, Southern Miss 65 OT
North Alabama (21-8) prevailed in hostile territory to take down Southern Miss (18-14) in overtime Monday night 69-65. The teams ended regulation tied at 61 points each. Led by junior guard Emma Wallen who hit a trey in the last minute of overtime to give her team the win, UNA outpaced Southern Miss 8-4 in the extra period. UNA will meet the winner of Tuesday’s Utah State-North Texas game in the semifinals.
